Script View

Script View lets you view your storyboard and screenplay side by side.

Tap the Script View icon in the top toolbar to enter Script View.

The left column shows your shots, each row laid out like the printed page, with the frame and its notes. The active shot is highlighted in blue.

The right column shows your imported screenplay.

Tip: Tap a frame to return to that frame in Board View and continue drawing.

Standard and E-konte Layout

Script View shows your board in one of two layouts, matching the printed page:

• Standard — one large frame per row, with a tall notes box beside it

• E-konte — compact rows in the Japanese animation storyboard format: cut number, picture, action/dialogue, and time

Switch with the Standard / E-konte switch in the Script View toolbar.

Full-width board

Tap the button at the far right of the script pane to hide the script and give the board the full width. Tap it again to bring the script back.

Load a screenplay

Tap Load Script in the script column, then choose a file from your iPad.

Supported formats: .fountain, .fdx, .fadein, .docx, .md, and .txt files.

You can import multiple scripts into the same project. Each script opens in its own tab at the top of the script column.

From the tabs, you can:

• Tap a tab to switch scripts

• Drag a tab with your finger to reorder it

• Tap × to close a tab

ShotGlide is private by design. Your scripts are opened and displayed locally on your device.

Typed notes

Each shot has a note area for descriptions, camera directions, dialogue references, blocking notes, or anything useful during prep.

With Type selected, double-tap a note area to edit it.

To stay in edit mode while moving between shots, use the single up/down chevrons in the left-column toolbar, or press Tab on an external keyboard. Press Shift + Tab to go back.

A handwriting icon on a row means that shot also has handwritten notes.

Handwritten notes

Switch Type / Draw to Draw to write or sketch with Apple Pencil in the notes box next to each frame. The drawing tools appear, just like in Board View.

• To scroll while in Draw, swipe with your pencil or finger on the board frames

• Typed and handwritten notes are kept separately. Switching between Type and Draw never deletes anything

A T icon on a row means that shot also has typed notes.

Assign script text to a shot

You can assign a script passage to the active shot.

Drag your finger to select text in the script column, then tap Assign to Shot.

The selected passage is added to the active shot's note area.

Tap Find in Script to jump back to the passage assigned to the active shot. It briefly flashes so you can spot it.

Print Preview

Tap Print Preview to see how your notes will look on the page. It opens Page View in the same layout that Script View is showing.

Board toolbar

Undo / Redo
Undo or redo your last note edit.

Clear Note
Clears the active shot's notes, one kind at a time:

• In Type — clears typed notes and script assignment. Handwritten notes stay safe

• In Draw — clears handwritten notes. Typed notes stay safe

Clear All Notes
Clears the notes of every shot in the current scene, one kind at a time:

• In Type — clears all typed notes and script assignments. Handwritten notes stay safe

• In Draw — clears all handwritten notes. Typed notes stay safe

Type / Draw
Switch between typing and handwriting your notes.

Previous / Next Shot
Move up or down one shot.

Back to Top / Jump to End
Jump to the first shot, or to the last shot with a drawing or notes. On most iPads, these two buttons appear when the board is full width.

Script toolbar

Assign to Shot
Assign selected script text to the active shot.

Find in Script
Jump to the script passage assigned to the active shot.

Previous / Next Scene Heading
Move up or down one scene heading in the script.

Start / End of Script
Jump to the beginning or end of the current script.

Print Preview
Open Page View in the same layout that Script View is showing.

Hide Script
Hide the script pane so the board uses the full width. Tap again to bring it back.
