Auto-create Scenes
Written By ShotGlide
Last updated About 1 month ago
Auto create scenes turns your script's scene headings into ShotGlide scenes in one go.
Supported scripts
Final Draft (.fdx), Fade In (.fadein) and Fountain (.fountain). Plain text and Markdown files have no scene headings, so they can't be used here.
Create scenes from your script
Open the Sidebar and tap Auto-create scenes at the bottom
Tap Choose script and pick your script file
Tick the headings that should start a new scene. All headings are ticked by default
Tap Create Scenes (the button shows how many, for example Create 12 Scenes)
Your new scenes are added at the end of the scene list, which scrolls to show them. If the project only has its empty starting scene, the first new scene takes its place.
Heading options
Adjust how scene names look before creating them:
Hide INT./EXT. — removes INT. and EXT. from the names
Hide Time — removes the time of day, such as DAY or NIGHT
Hide Scene Number — removes scene numbers. Only shown when your script has them
Use Title Case — turns ALL CAPS headings into Title Case
ShotGlide remembers these choices for your next import. Scene names can be up to 80 characters.
Back-to-back repeats
When the same location appears several times in a row, choose how to handle each run:
Keep First — only the first heading becomes a scene. The others are unticked and tagged Same location as above. This is the default
Keep All — every heading becomes its own scene
Undo
Right after creating, a toast message in the top right shows how many scenes were created. Tap Undo to remove them as if they were never created. Undo is available for about 10 seconds, until your next action, and only while the new scenes are still empty.
Import the same script again
After a rewrite, load the same script again and ShotGlide only lists headings that don't have a scene yet. Headings you skipped before come back unticked. Nothing already in your project is renamed, moved or deleted.
Privacy
ShotGlide is private by design. Your script is opened locally on your device.
